Alan (et al), Sorry for the delay, but I finally got around to trying your latest patches against kernel 2.6.8.1. I figured I'd try to get another data point using my Sony DCR-TRV38 camcorder, just in case I had some luck where Til didn't. I see no USB devices (except the root hubs) being displayed ('lsusb' or 'cat / proc/bus/usb/devices') when running with the first patch you sent to the list. I added the 2nd patch (the one that makes the Microsoft enumeration technique be used first) and the results were the same. Both cases were worse than the stock 2.6.8.1 kernel, which can detect all my USB devices (except for the camcorder in 'USB streaming video' mode). If I understand things correctly, this means that Luc's Sony DCR-HC40(E) camcorder is behaving differently (better) than Til's Sony DCR-TRV255E or my Sony DCR-TRV38 when used with your patch(es). I haven't figured out how Kyle Harris plays into this story yet -- I must have missed that thread. If there's anything else that needs to be tested, please let me know. Thanks for all your effort in this regard!
