I have a 6-1 card reader attached via a USB header. When I insert an
SD card (Lexer 256Mb) and mount the device (/dev/sdb1) as read-only
everything is fine, I can read all of the data on the card.

Whenever I mount the card as writable and any changes are made, the
light on the card reader flickers permanently and the command never
returns. At this point I have to unplug the card which is now corrupt.
It seems that I cannot write to the card without this happening, I
can't even format the disk (with mkfs.xxx) without this happening.

Is this a known problem with some card readers / cards, or is it a
driver probelm? Just for reference i'm using kernel 2.4.25. I can
format, read and write to the same SD card from by iPaq which is
running the familiar linux distribution.

Have the drivers improved recently, would upgrading to kernel 2.6.x help?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Steve
