It would be helpful/useful (think of the archives and future searchers) for 
you to post the manufacturer and model number (and/or the USB Vendor/Product 
ID reported by 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices') of the PCMCIA card which did not 
work, to serve as a warning to others.

Even better, I humbly request that both you guys make an entry (negative, 
positive, whatever) for your respective devices at the website which tracks 
Linux USB working/non-working devices:

   http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/

I just checked that website for the 'F5U222' and cannot find anything about 
it. It's always nice to know (before purchase) what hardware to expect good/
bad things from, and entries to that site can only help others in the future.
