It certainly looks like something is wrong either with the interrupt 
handling or with the controller itself.  As another experiment, you can 
try booting with "noapic".

A different experiment would be to rmmod ehci_hcd before plugging in the
stick.  This will mean the stick only runs at full speed instead of high
speed.  But if it works at all that will be an improvement.
