In an earlier exchange (in January) Valentine said that his drive worked 
under Windows.  This sort of problem is often very hard to solve because 
there's no clear indication what's causing it.  Probably we won't figure 
it out until someone can track it with a USB bus analyzer, which isn't 
cheap.

Furthermore, Valentine, do you know for certain that these same problems 
don't occur with Windows?  Could it be that they _do_ occur, but Windows 
does a good job of recovering quickly?
