I have taken the NIC out, this has seemed to fix the problem, i've been
up 12 hours without a freeze. I just can't quite understand why a PCI
card would cause the USB Controller to halt....

Howdy, since last night when I booted, I was greeted with an unwelcome
mouse freeze. Initially I went to the Xfree86 user list, since when the
mouse would freeze X11 would go into an uninterruptible sleep and
couldn't be killed. This was before I noticed the "host controller
halted" error in dmesg and came here:
uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: host system error, PCI problems?
uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: host controller halted, very bad!
usb 1-2: USB disconnect, address 3
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 2
The last two lines are me disconnecting the USB devices. One thing i've
been able to do when this happens is unplug the mouse and sound USB
devices, then try to kill X. A few times I was able to replug the mouse
back in and have it still work, but since it happens every time I boot
within 5-30 minutes i've just resorted to an old ps/2.
I did have the computer open a couple days ago, I removed some a wifi
card and inserted an older 3com 3c905 boomerang NIC, i'm wondering if
maybe something got damaged in the process. Should I should try removing
the NIC? I hope I don't have to buy a new mobo as i'm dead broke at the
moment! If you wish me to provide any more detail, feel free to ask.
Thanks,
