Thank you for your answer. I have so far reached the same conclusion: I tried burning an image from a win2k machine via USB 1.1, and sure enough there was the same data corruption. Googling a bit in this direction I also found some discussions where people seem to have had the same problem, indicating an incompatibility between the PX-716A and the Prolific USB/IDE chip of the MyBox (for example see http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=132636 ). I contacted both customer supports, and so far only Plextor answered, indicating that they don't support the usage of their units in external cases, as they don't have control over it.
