Dear list,
I'm running out of ideas how to convince my USB barcode scanner
to send its data through a device node instead of inserting it
into the kernel's keyboard subsystem, because I'd like to be able
to tell the two (PS/2 keyboard and USB barcode scanner) apart.
Before I try to adapt the HID driver source myself, I wanted to
ask here... this problem seems fairly common to me, so I might not
be the first to put effort into that.
Is there something I have overlooked? I have found a few threads
about similar problems, but the global blacklist/quirk table doesn't sound
right to me - after all, I _want_ the device, it would just be nice
to have the data come from somewhere else.
You are not the only one who needs this. I have the same need, but have
lacked the time to do anything about it. I don't think you've overlooked
anything, I too searched around for quite a long time.
What I'd like to see is a driver that grabbed the barcode reader and
then appeared to be a serial port so the existing code I have could just
use it. Someday I'll get time to try and hack this together. It does not
appear to be that hard to do but I've got 2-3 months of other things to
do in front of me. Oddly enough that stack of things to do gets longer,
never shorter. :( If you have time to attempt such a project I'd be
willing to find some time to help debug and test it.
Sorry I can't help more.
Cheers,
David
Thanks in advance,
Jan
