Hi Alan,

now I tried the same tokens on a different hardware, and now I get these
problems sometimes. for one token it was first ok, then suddenly failed,
and not even replugging changed the situation.

but: both systems are amd64 in 64bit mode. but the rest is different
laptop vs. desktop, ati chipset vs. nvidia chipset and so on.
also the second system has no APIC problems like the first one, so
all this looks very strange. on the second system so far I only tried
the ubuntu pachted kernel, but I will try a vanilla kernel too.

still I'm quite confused. it could be a hardware problem as well, but
quite unlikely, as the hardware is a stupid connector to a build in
smart card. and the smart card is sealed/fixed inside, so it can't get
loose and shouldn't have any contact problems.

also I played with the timeout, but whether I use one second or ten
does not matter. so either the device is broken and sometimes is dead
from a usb perspective or some issue in the linux kernel? any chance
some problem was identifies in the last weeks?

Thanks for your help.

Regards, Andreas
