Hy

I'am working with a intel pxa-270 (embedded System) and the linux kernel
2.6.16. In my project we intent to work with a USB connection as a
client. For easy handling we thought about using the USB Gadget
Framework specially with the serial driver of that framework.
The document "Linux-USB Gadget API Framework" mentioned "there's no
serial console support at this time" (dated 8 June 2005).

My Question is, have there any further work been done until now? Is
there an ongoing project about USB serial gadget?

An other point of interests is, whether i understand the basic concepts
of this framework.
During my readings i gain the impression that there are three layers:

- Peripheral Controller Drivers
hardware dependend (and for the hole gadget framework usable)

- Gadget Driver
the gadget framework itself, with various interfaces

- Upper Layers
the specific service (hardware independent) i.e mass storage, serial
console

According this concept it would only be necessary to implement the
"Peripheral Controller Driver" once, so for the serial console support a
generic one would be suitable for any hardware.
I know that pengutronix is working on a hardware driver like this and
for further questions i'll ask on the appropriate mailing list. But for
now i try to get a overview of this topic.

Thanks for any reply
Aurel
