It seems that ECHI fails to communicate with a Palm Treo 650 three out of four times.
ECHI is compiled static in kernel 2.6.17.13 on a Slackware linux system. When functioning, dmesg gives: usb 1-1.1: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 24 usb 1-1.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice visor 1-1.1:1.0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter detected usb 1-1.1: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB0 usb 1-1.1: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB1 usb 1-1.1: USB disconnect, address 24 visor ttyUSB0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0 visor ttyUSB1: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1 visor 1-1.1:1.0: device disconnected However, when trying again seconds later: usb 1-1.1: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 26 usb 1-1.1: device descriptor read/64, error -110 usb 1-1.1: device descriptor read/64, error -110 usb 1-1.1: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 27 usb 1-1.1: device descriptor read/64, error -110 hub 1-1:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. The PC has not been rebooted, ie no changes. This happens before udev kicks in, so it can't be udev related. I have not found any references to this so it seems like an un-common problem. lsusb gives: Bus 3 Device 1: ID 0000:0000 Bus 1 Device 45: ID 03f0:a004 Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 5850c Bus 1 Device 44: ID 054c:014f Sony Corp. Re-inserting the USB cable fixes the problem. When the Palm is successfully registered, the printer has no following trouble.
