Try using the most recent 2.6.21-rc kernel.  It might make a difference.

If it doesn't, see what "lsusb -v" says about the camera.  Also try doing:

        echo y >/sys/module/usbcore/parameters/usbfs_snoop

before you run F-Spot and then see what shows up in the dmesg log after 
the program fails.
