Don't be in too much of a hurry to assume one particular piece of hardware 
must be bad.  There can be situations where you just can't tell what's 
going on.

For example, I've got a USB HDD enclosure and USB cable that don't work on
my home PC.  If I replace any one of the three components (the enclosure,
the cable, or the PC) then the other two _do_ work!  What can you conclude
from that?
