These sorts of errors usually indicate low-level hardware problems, such 
as bad USB cables or faulty terminations.  You should start by checking 
the cables (and don't forget any cables inside the computer case, 
connecting the USB ports to the motherboard).

Also check to see if the devices themselves are broken, by trying to
connect them to a different computer.  And make sure the computer's USB
controller is okay by finding another device which can work with it.
