Fortunately (or not), I have a VIA MVP3-based board.

But basically what you're saying is that if I install esound, it will
manage all data to the audio port and configure anything sent to it, is
that right? The device in question is a USB->MD DAC, shame the MD didn't
come with a USB port and convert the bitrate internally (has optical in
too). <sigh>
There is no other software involved in the interface and it did work
perfectly, only that they sounded a bit funny ;-)

I'll give esound a look.
