Hello all,
Alcatel will soon provide a 'starter kit' for Linux.
This starter kit will consist of the specs to write the driver, the firmware
(this will have a license prohibiting you to decode it and so on... Read it
for the details when it becomes available.), a driver and 10 SpeedTouch USB
modems (see later). For more information about the device, see
http://www.alcateldsl.com/ .
The driver will consist of a combined linux-usb and linux-atm module. It will
be published under the GNU public license and donated to the Open Source
community.
The driver will still need some work, but a working framework will be there.
Alcatel will donate 10 modems to developers who whish to contribute further to
the driver. All applications can be send to me and require some proof that
you own a DSL line and convincing me that you can be of some help. If your
application is accepted, a modem will be send to you.
I will make another announcement when the spec, the firmware and modems will
become available.
