I've been down the same path with a c1xs. Drop the RedHat kernel -
there is a minor gotcha applying the USB backport, and a mess of
other hacks RedHat has applied to their "standard" kernel. Start off
with a clean kernel, and people are far more willing to help address
problems you may have.

Good. This one bit me at first as well.

This is a 2.2.14->2.3.99 backport "feature". It seems that APM
support was intentionally disabled in the backport. There have
been patches posted recently to this list that should fix this,
however I've found that getting 2.2.14 to work with irda, ieee-1394,
pcmcia, and the commercial oss yamaha 724 driver is perilous at
best. If you're going to get everything to work, you're best left
fighting with 2.4.0test1-ac6.

I've found the same thing with the 2.2.x kernels. Only one of the
2.2.x kernels that I've managed to build survived this particular
problem: try 2.2.16pre2 with the 2.4.99-pre7-1 backport.

Yes. I've experienced the lockups. At present, your best bet is
probably to experiment with 2.4.0test1-ac6 or newer. I've managed
to get *everything* working (minus the c1xs builtin
"kawasaki steel" camera, the nasty conexant winmodem, and that
questionable wheel-button thingy). I'm still fighting to get
this pair of iGlasses to work with the Neomagic 256a/v composite
out with XFree86, however. :)

What pcmcia-cs version are you running? Have you tried 3.1.15?

Likewise. There are a few Sony pages out there, but only a couple
that really touch on everything about the picturebook series.
It would be nice to gather all manner of documentation supporting
the evolution of models and the appropriate drivers and slap
a few packages up on sourceforge or somewhere similar.
I suppose this is a "call for papers" of sorts:
Anyone with a Sony PCG-C1X* model laptop (either working or in
a questionable state), please feel free to E-mail me directly.
