The device was disconnected electronically.

How often does this happen?  After the disconnect occurs, does the card 
reader remain disconnected until the next power cycle?

Probably.

Another??  Are there other bugs affecting you?

Maybe your BIOS settings will let you disable it.

Or you could try to open up the computer's case and disconnect the
wires to the card reader.
