Some software I need to install has alerted me to the 'erroneous release' of a development version of gcc with the RH7.0 distribution (http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-2.96.html).
A recent magazine review of RH7.1 I've seen (Linux Format?) states that this problem is now fixed. However, following my upgrade to RH7.1, I see that the gcc version is still 2.96 (looks like 2.96-81 from the package names). Furthermore, the RH web-site bug-fix page lists a 'new version of gcc 2-96 fixing several bugs' for RH 7.1. This is all very confusing to a Linux newbie - anyone care to cast some light?
