Hmmmmm. A general comment to the LUG... Echoing Carl's comment the other night to some extent.
I'm going to stand on my high ground here.. Apart from the 7.2 you copied for me the other night, I've bought copies of RH 6.2, 7.0 and 7.1, MD 8 and Suse.. Here at the council we have an official RH7.0 professional server distro. And if I use 7.2 for anything I'll probably order a real distro copy from DRfloppy to stick on the shelf at home. Linux is free, but how many of us are prepared to do a completely "self built" free Linux install.. ie: start with nothing, download kernel source and build it using gcc on another box, create file systems manually, etc... Build everything from source, login, ls, bash, sh, mv, cp ...... See http://www.linuxfromscratch.com/ Very few on this list I'd think. We all rely on the Distro companies for at least the initial build, and all of us use RPMS, apt-get, etc. The official copy of RH7.2 is only $52.95 NZD, you can install it as many times as you like, and you're contributing back to the whole process which we hold dear to our hearts. I know some folks think this is a huge amount of money, but it's nothing for the amount of man-years of effort it takes to build a OS, not to mention the few hundred apps that come with most distros these days. Save up for a month, and support your favourite distro with more than evangelism and rhetoric. Cheers, Chris Hellyar. At $5-15 per disk no distro is expensive to get hold of. ###################################################################### The contents of this e-mail message may be privileged and/or confidential.
