Hi Mal, Have you got the cd's yet? They will have a readme file on the first disk to give you info, if you system will support booting from cd you can install straight from the bootable cd. However by far the best way in my opinion is to follow the instruction to create the boot disks (floppys) the same as you will have for 6.0. // I strongly suggest that you use partition magic to create your linux partitions prior to installing although Mandrake 8.1 has a really nice partitioning setup program (run during the install)
If you are sharing this pc with windows or have data to backup do it before installing to avoid the possible loss of data. If Linux is the only system to be on your pc and you have backed up your data just go for it, it's a nice install and not hard to repeat if you muck up. Note 8.1 will also give you the option on setup to upgrade and existing (ie 6.0) install, I suggest a clean install is the better option.
