The field from degaussing won't harm either monitor. It only lasts a few seconds. The degaussing of one monitor will not leave a residual magnetic field on the other screen. I keep a 15" screen next to the 19". I only turn the 15" on when I need the extra screen real-estate (eg Photoshop), and after the initial "boing" there is no effect on the 19". Just keep the screens away from major power feeders & swichboards; they won't get damaged but they're not much fun to look at as the image vibrates. Of course, we're all assuming that you're using CRT screens. LCD panels are totally different and you won't have anything to worry about with those.
