Not quite what you need, but a VNC server can be running an Xsession on
the linux box, which can then be attached to by either a local or remote
machine.  I remember hearing about a chap who had multiple vnc clients
in view-only mode (I keep thinking of it as pervert mode - looking but
can't touch) as a poor man's subsitute for a projector.
