Because I want to put a virtual X desktop (VNC) on a machine, and then have two clients look at it. One sees the left half, the other the right half. By running X2VNC and/or x2x on the clients, I should be able to have a desktop that can actually drag an application from one screen to the other, when both screens are on different PCs. There might be another way of splitting an X desktop across PCs (as opposed to using multiple monitors connected to one PC), but I've been unable to find it.
