I disagree.  I have approx 30k of student loan - the result of
5 1/2 years of study.  On the other hand, the job I was offered 
after honours paid 12k less than that after an MSc (different 
places and specialisations, though), and I got my first choice 
of job.  By maintaining a student lifestyle (mostly 8) ), I should
be able to pay off the loan in somewhat under 3 years - after which
the excess becomes profit.

More importantly, instead of becoming yet another database programmer, 
I got to pick what I wanted to do.  Of course, YMMV.

Work experience is good - may give you money, probably gives you
a referee, definately gives you depth. And it proves that you can
work (in the real world)...
