I don't have 'Disks' - I have "Rescan Desktop Directory' and 'Rescan
devices' the function of which are unclear to me but neither create the
temp drive icon. There is in my /home/blah/Desktop icons which represent
the all the removable drives but if drag them to the desktop or copy
them to .gnome_desktop they simply appear as files.
