Paul,

Check the archives ( I think U can access them from the LUG webpage) as I
believe a similar problem was encountered by someone else recently. A minor
difficulty is what is the exact problem indicated when trying to access the
share? If I recall the last guy's problem was with the firewall settings
within RH7.3

Other than that: What distro?, Have u made kernel changes? Have U made any
updates?

Hope that helps a bit, YMMV

:~ Hello List,
:~
:~ I am having some difficulty getting Samba configured, the main problem is
:~ when I try to access a share on the Samba server from a windows
:~ box. Network
:~ neighborhood shows the samba server but always comes up with
:~ network problem
:~ when I try to access the server.
:~ I can ping the Linux PC from windows and vice a versa. testparm
:~ on smb.conf
:~ file shows OK. I can run smbclient on the Linux box and connect
:~ to a windows
:~ box and transfer files ok.
:~ I have smb.conf set to use encrypted passwords and have run the
:~ mksmbpasswd.sh utility on the passwd file.
:~ When I run nmblookup -L samba_server then I get an error message
:~ saying it
:~ can't find an exceptions.tdb file. The file doesn't exist in the
:~ directory
:~ the path is pointing to.
:~ I have checked the shares listed in smb.conf many times to
:~ ensure they are
:~ correct.
:~ I am not using dns so have set the resolve order to[ lmhosts hosts wins
:~ bcast] I have set up these files to include all the windows PC's
:~ This is a new install of RH7.3
:~ I have another Linux PC running RH6,0 and I have no problems
:~ with Samba and
:~ I have virtually copied the smb.conf file over to the RH7.3 PC.
:~
:~ any help most appreciated.
