The latest Video recorder based on two different varieties of DVD (remember betamax) allow you to start viewing what you are recording. eg. If you start recording the six o'clock news you can start watching it from the beginning if you get in at say 6.10 and it will continue recording so you can watch all of it to the end. They cost about $3000 and the media 9GB R/W is expensive $40 approx.
