I have a G200 here and it works fine on XFree86 4.2.0 under Mandrake 8.2. Tux Racer works fine too.
The issue here is probably that Direct Rendering is disabled. Running 'glxinfo' under X11 will tell you whether this is the case. About the third line down in it's output it should have this: direct rendering: Yes If that says "no" then you've got a config problem and 3D acceleration is disabled.
