These are not linux group acronyms, but internet acronyms, used widely throughout the online community. They date back to the days of IRC (Internet relay chat, an old instant messaging system) and usenet (an old bulletin board system), both of which are still used.
I will apologise in advance now, bcoz I don't intend to stop using them. It's gonna prevent OOS you see.
