I mean static. Getting the dhcp server to give the same ip address to
a particular client each time (by MAC address) means you always know
which machine has what ip address, combined with easy changes to global
configurations such as gateway address, wins server address, dns server
address, by changing those things on the dhcp server. It works very
nicely.
