cdrom/ disk/ floppy/ and then my Windows partitions are listed (Which is what I could see with GUI! - but there I had the additional info of a padlock as part of the DIR icon!) OK. OK. I had missed in the CLI instructions I was initially following before I moved to GUI was that I ACTUALLY had to have a CD in the drive! It's what my senior colleages would call 'having a senior moment'! I was just seeing a DIR as a DIR, not a physical device as in this case. Back to the drawing board, Peter. Engage brain. It was such a stupid question that no one went THAT low to find the answer! Thanks, Peter.
