No Problem.

As Robert pointed put SWAT is an excellent config tool and comes with
an HTML version of O'Riellys "Using Samba" which as an excellent
reference for anyone just starting out with Samba.

Having been off line for a day or so, not sure if you have managed to
get SWAT running, it usually involves creating or modifing a file for
the xinet service. Let me know if you have not done so, I will dig
out a copy of the file I used to get swat going and email it back.
The O'Rielly book is very good at steppping you through various
configuration issues and includes helpful troubleshooting guides as
well for checking any problems.

Thanks Richard
putting the path in to
/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start got things going

Now I have to work out what I want to put in my smb.conf .
That should keep me quiet for a while :)
