Nick .. a fair number of people have more than one PC at home these days and a linux gateway is a great use for an older PC.
I'd also suggest that many of the people attending our meetings are "enthusiasts" rather than outright "newbies" and are likely to have multiple machines at home. My main reason for suggesting it is that its a useful skill-set to develop in the linux community, especially when we would like to surruptitiously edge linux machines into the work-place. Parody on redmond workplace .. Big cheesey-head " we're gonna put in some new file-servers .. spending all of this year's IT budget on hardware .. sorry about that raise .. maybe next year..." Recently acquired IT flunky "well el cheese .. I think we should consider using linux on our current hardware - I really believe we can get another 2 years out of this equipment .. Oh and about that raise .. " .. some six months later Big cheesey-head "well IT flunky .. I haven't seen you for six months .. that linux stuff sure saved us a bunch of money on the servers .. is there anywhere else you think we could use this linux stuff?... " El Flunky ".. actually el cheese .. you've been using it on your desktop for the last 2 months - have you noticed how much more stable it is?" El cheese ".. I thought something had changed! I haven't had it crash once .. what did you do? .." Flunky "well cheese before I tell you .. about that raise?? ..
