Any homonym of "wares" spelt with a "z" is too closely associated with illegally copied IP. Therefore it is best too distance oneself totally if your target market includes a significant proportion of people sensitve to this issue.
Personally, I'm not offended, but I have a thicker skin than most. OTOH, if you're targetting a market that includes a lot of unscrupulous IP theives, then you've got an excellent name. Do what you have to do to make people want to buy off you ;-) >I meant "Softwearz" in the sense of 'changeable styles of dress', as in >desktop appearances / distros, but also as a play on that term "Warez" >which I'd yet to see a translation for (thanks Steve, I had been thinking of >Shareware). Seemed innocuous enough at the time, but obviously this is >indeed a prickly issue. > >Another reason for the abbrev. was always looking for ways to decrease >verbosity / characters, & therefore download time, on my site. > >Is "Softwearz" therefore acceptable for use in place of >"Software/Distributions"? What sayeth the majority?
