Bull, He is just trying to make a sale.

Note that you have to keep your IPCop patches up to date.
Also, being somewhat paranoid, I'd stop the Apache configuration server 
running when it's not needed. You can always turn it on again when it's 
needed by simply rebooting the machine.

There is perhaps the other point of view that going with the Telecom solution 
means that you don't have to carry the responsibility when the inevitable 
happens.
