Concerning the responsibility: there will no doubt be a clause in the contract to evade that.
Re. the virus protection of Xtra, I must asy that it has stopped quite a few, but our own scanner still picks up the odd one that they miss.

95% of the time they dont know what they are talking about ( In a previous life (Well Job) I worked with sales people (both Internal and Telecom) for a few too many years.... up to 30% of my job was fixing there blunders)
With your own fire-wall you have 100% control over the configuration, with telecom you have next to none.
If they are offering it for 'Free' it may be worth considering as another security layer..... oh I think they offer virus filtering as well... not 100% sure on this.
