Yeah that was my inital conclusion. However it is only a 4 gig drive for redhat with 
an 8 gig windows drive. I just left it for about 2-3 hours and it made no progress. It 
seems to fly up to the first 10% or so then just stop and I cant hear the cd spinning 
or hardrive clunking *technical terms of course!*

The format can take a while, especially if you have a low spec machine
or a large hard drive. I had no problems once I sorted out my Ram.
