I must admit that I did not read every word of the above, but it looked like something that might help get a total newbie off the ground. Modern monitors will be set up correctly by the X-Windowing System R6 version 4.1.x _provided_ the monitor, the video card, and the XF86Config file entries support the protocol (DPMS) which allows X-11 to interrogate the monitor as to what its cababilities are. If you have an older monitor or video card you are at either writing the mode lines yourself, or using one of the X11 setup programs, none of which work 100% perfectly. -- Sincerely etc., Christopher Sawtell
