Only on OS/2 some years ago. I have, even after 30 years of NZ residence, quite a strong British RP accent. The Voice Type product for American voices just woold not work properly at all. Once I managed to get a British version of OS/2 out of IBM, I was able to dictate into the computer quite well. It was quite a bit slower than typing but remarkably good. I had to speak rather slowly and frightfully properly! I would say that if you are disabled in any way, such as by RSI / OOS and therefore can't type, then Via Voice would be very helpful. I understand that the Via Voice for Linux available for ( beer ) free is intended for American voices, and if you require the files for a British style voice then you have to buy a British version of the program for a different O/S and transfer the voice definition files by hand. I have the Linux files for American voices:- -rw-r--r-- 1 chris xgrp 3153920 Jan 3 2001 /mnt/disk2/archive/viavoice_asr_sdk_3.tar -rw-r--r-- 1 chris xgrp 13557760 Jan 3 2001 /mnt/disk2/archive/viavoice_command_rtk_2.tar -rw------- 1 chris xgrp 77895680 Jan 3 2001 /mnt/disk2/archive/viavoice_dict_rtk_3.tar and could transfer them to a CD for the usual $5 -- Sincerely etc., Christopher Sawtell
