My Compaqs ran Linux just fine (though mine were probably Presarios) - I 
detest the BIOS on disk thing, though.  From an earlier post, Gateway may 
use a modified power supply; I'm not sure what stupid tricks other 
manufacturers may pull.

'Senior' in my case is a K6-166, about 5-6 years old; good as secondary 
box, but not worth upgrading. [Can't handle my PCTV card 8)]

(And yes, I do have a working 286 sitting under my desk... 8) [Sort of.  
Crashes randomly; probably a memory issue])
