Hi I'm new to the list... and i'm new to New Zealand too... ;)
I'm a guy who's here on holyday and would like to meet some linux interested people. Some background: The first time I installed/used linux was back in 1995, I heard of linux on some magazine/sites and one day, while strolling, my eye was catched by a book with a CD included, it was a slackware distro (can't remember the version); I spent that night reading the manual and installing the system, not an easy task due to the lack of support of extended partition resize by the FIPS (if don't get it wrong) util (I had to defrag and then change the partition table manually with a sector editor to obtain the two needed extra partition). When I finally booted the system it was "love" at first sight (also because playing DOOM in a 320x200 window in X was cool)... the following afternoon i was staring amazed at my monitor while compiling the kernel. A lot of time has passed and I now prefer the "roll my own" approach to linux (Debian is my preferred official linux distro). I'm sorry to "pollute" the list with this *semi* personal topic, but i thought it was polite to introduce myself and ask for acceptance instead of just coming at the meeting and saying "HI" (besides, I'm of the shy kind). -- Delio PS I'm not a native english speaker... ^^;;
