With xmms if you runing in Gnome or Eligthenment you need to use the eSound 
out put plugin. In KDE the Arts one you can some times use the AlSA one 
however no other application will beable to make a sound and can cause crasses 
or hangs.And the OSS plugin should work in most environments but also my 
produce crashes or hangs of other apps if they try to use the sound as well.
