Hi,
As you will see below we have several that have responded to our call
for participants in the next meeting . They are listed with the latest email
at the top.
There is room still for anyone else of whom would like to bring their
linux problem machines along. But please let us know by emailing
[EMAIL PROTECTED] so we can keep track of how many machines are being
bought along. As space is limited.
Remember there is a swap/buy/sell/give table at this meeting. So bring along
your unwanted gear. (and money)
I reckon this is going to be a good meeting to finish off the year with. I am
looking forward to it.

ISSUE 7:
I have a gentoo sever, on which I am struggling a bit with the
configuartion of several daemons and multimedia apps.
I could use some help, or I will eventually sort myself out, but if
there's space and especially if any of: Nick Rout, Chris Sawtell, Chris
Hellyar are available for a brain pick then I could accelerate the process.
These are the things I wish to get going:
Bind & DHCP with dynupdates,
Postfix,procmail, & Cyrus IMAP
Samba PDC
xawtv
Secure Wireless (tunnels, VPN, or IPv6 ?)
more than an evening's worth but I might get some ideas and get a bit done
Cheers,
Chris Bayley

Hi,
I am running Mandrake 9.0 and when I tried to compile a new kernel.org kernel
(without all the stuff I didnt need) I kinda mucked up my Mandrake kernel (or
modules?). If someone EXPERIENCED would like to volunteer to help me
recompile it that would be great. Please, dont volunteer unless you really
are experienced and know what you are doing. I ended up reinstalling
mandrake.
Thanks,
Paul

I may have some of these things sorted before the meeting but for now I have
these problems.....
Machine is Compaq Deskpro EN 400 (400Mhz PentiumII with 390 Mb RAM and 13 Gb
HD)
No sound - ALSA
Not booting from Grub - I get Grub>
From which I can type root (hd0,0) ENTER, kernel /bzimage root=/dev/hda3
ENTER, boot ENTER to get going
Java - works in Konquerer but not Mozilla
Flash - works in Mozilla but not Konquerer
I can bring hard copies of installation instructions with the PC.
Regards,
Robert Fisher
UPDATE:
I can add another item to my list of problems...
I want to change the resolution size so things are not so small on my
screen.
Also, I am lending a laptop to Zane this week. I have installed RedHat 8 on
it but I have not got the time to get the PC card and sound working. Maybe
this could be another project for Thursday night? (Although Zane may have
picked it up and have it sorted out by then)
Regards,
Robert Fisher

Hi,
On the subject of problems for your CLUG workshop...
I recently got back to NZ via Hong Kong where I picked up a nice little USB
hard drive. Anybody who's a whiz with USB devices I would sure appreciate
some help figuring out if this should work but doesn't/shouldn't work/is
working but I'm just to dumb to see it.
Looks to me a bit like the first option. My RH 7.2 install finds it,
registers it as a scsi drive, but then fails to read/write to it.
Cheers,
Rob Freeman
BTW I also picked up a WiFi card. Any leads for WiFi around Canterbury would
also be welcome.

Modem / PPP fix

Hi
Unless I solve it in the meantime - I would like some help with getting my
modem working on my Pentium Pro machine running Corel Linux (which I will
gradually update using the Debian apps once I get the modem operating).
I have got it to the stage that the modem will dial and connect with
Paradise, but the PPP times out, I think due to a problem with
authentification.
Once again I will be late to the meeting since it clashes with an earlier
meeting that I attend every Thursday. Should be there by 8:45
I also have some gear for the bring and buy (some free stuff to dispose of
also).
Thanks
Lance Blackler

At the next meeting can I please have some help with some basic things to do
with operating linux.
In particular extracting and installing programs from .tar files and using
terminal to run the install scripts.
Also at the last meeting I think I was speaking to Nick and he said he could
get me a copy of Mandrake 9, I would still be interested in that thank you
(I have them ready for you and some others whom have asked me: NickE)

Kevin
