take a look at the output of glxinfo. If it says: Direct Rendering: No then DRI is not enabled, and that is your problem :)
Enabling it requires that you're using the right drivers (I'm guessing from other posts you need the closed-source drivers from the nvidia website to get the best results), and your X is configured properly.
