Well if you're talking about big games you're probably not talking about free. Decent software costs money to develop, or in the open source world it takes time to mature.

Quake I/II/III - I picked up all three boxed together for $50 from the warehouse and then downloaded the linux binaries from ftp.idsoftware.com
UT is probably only $15-20 from cash converters.

Plus there are a lot of games that run under linux with wine/winex have a look at www.transgaming.com for a list large of games and ratings of how well they work. There is a free version of winex on sourceforge, but if you want to play games with copy protection on the CD's you will need the commercial version (or apply nocd cracks where appropriate).
