It might be the setting in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard. If yours doesn't look
like the one below, save a copy of it and try changing it to what is shown
below. If you don't want to edit it manually, run kbdconfig and select US,
not US International.
KBCHARSET=iso-8859-15
KEYBOARD=us
KEYTABLE=us
After that, type:
service keytable restart
and see if it helps.
