Possible causes that spring to mind:

 - Subscribed under two addresses, one of which you automatically forward to
the other

 - Mail client interrupted while popping mail (before it deletes them from the
server) and popping the whole lot again

 - CLUG mail list software broken (see Zane for that one :-)

Are the envelope headers also identical?
