Another cause that presents itself in my case: - An idiot using Outlook Express and getting confused when his message rules don't direct mail to the CLUG folder as he expected they would. My rule did not cover for when people cc to CLUG while sending the original to an individual. Cursory examination of mails when this first happened lead me to erroneously believe I was getting duplicates and ever since I have been deleting most that ended up in the In Box rather than the CLUG folder.
Hopefully this embarrassing error will cause me to check my facts before I next stop lurking and venture another observation. > Possible causes that spring to mind: > > - Subscribed under two addresses, one of which you automatically forward to > the other > > - Mail client interrupted while popping mail (before it deletes them from the > server) and popping the whole lot again > > - CLUG mail list software broken (see Zane for that one :-) > > Are the envelope headers also identical? > > >No, I get this too and it does not just apply to responses to my own > >postings. > > > > > >----- Original Message ----- > >From: "Yuri de Groot" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >To: "CLUG" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 5:39 PM > >Subject: Re: Postings > > > > > >> I'm guessing this only happens to replies to your own postings, right? > >> > >> When someone clicks "Reply to all" they send two messages: > >> 1 directly to you and 1 to the mailing list which the list then also sends > > >to > >> you. > >> You can't prevent this - it is entirely in the control of the person > >replying > >> to you. > >> > >> >When I get postings from some members I sometimes get two copies of the > > >same > >> message, I had this right from I first joined the group > >> > > > > > >
