Greetings all,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Glenn Reed and I have been
watching this list with interest.

I am new to the South Island (not to Linux) so I am interested in coming along
to your meeting. I started the Waikato Linux users group years ago and since
then disappeared into obscurity ;)

The way they ran their first meeting of the year was primarily to have a
brainstorming session about the kind of seminars people would like to see
happen and then look for people who would like to speak about that particular
topic.

If new people wanted to see what Linux looked like I could bring along a laptop
with a knoppix CD (a version of linux which runs from a CD). The laptop itself
has windows installed :( However there is something wrong with the battery
charging part of the laptop so it needs to be plugged into the power.

Sometime during the year I may be able to do a presentation on linux text-to-
speech using the free software from the Festival project and also demonstrate
some applications I've written using the software. However they will have to
be some time later as it only runs on my Linux desktop computer. (Knoppix
doesn't include festival in its distro).

Well, I am looking forward to the new meeting.

Cheers
Glenn
